Veterinary Technician

Job details
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments.
- Conduct laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostics to support accurate diagnoses. Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with cleaning, polishing, and radiography.
- Maintain detailed records of patient treatments, laboratory results, X-ray images, and medical histories in compliance with clinic protocols.
- Handle specialized tasks such as animal catheterization, administering vaccines or medications.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary critical care practices.
- Laboratory experience including sample collection and processing; familiarity with X-ray procedures is highly desirable.
- Skilled in dog and cat handling and animal restraint techniques to facilitate safe examinations or treatments. Ability to apply aseptic techniques during surgical or diagnostic procedures; familiarity with veterinary equipment.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age at time of hire
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary industry experience
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Frequent standing, bending, walking, lifting, carrying and reaching
- Strong organizational skills - Excellent communication & listening skills
- Self-motivated and team-oriented
Pay ranges from $18-$20 an hour and is based on experience, with benefits including health insurance, paid time off, a 401(k), and employee discounts.

Veterinary Technician / Technician Assistant

Duties
- Assist with animal handling, restraint, and behavior management to ensure safe and stress-free examinations and procedures
- Support veterinary technicians and veterinarians during surgeries, diagnostics, and critical care treatments
- Perform animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning kennels, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring proper record keeping
- Administer medications, IV insertions, catheterizations, and injections following veterinary protocols and safety guidelines
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment by sanitizing equipment, surgical areas, and treatment spaces using appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Communicate effectively with clients about pet care instructions, medication schedules, and post-treatment follow-up
Requirements
- 1 year prior kennel experience or veterinary clinic experience is required
- Strong animal handling skills across various species including dogs, cats, and equines
- Ability to perform cleaning duties diligently while adhering to safety protocols using PPE at all times
- Experience with record keeping related to pet health histories and treatment logs
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration
